Virginia Welding & Fabrication LLC is a shop in Middletown, Virginia that works inside industrial plants. Ryan Hartley started the company in 2020 and built a name for himself inside the industrial plants in the area by doing quality work, building lasting relationships, and being honest with customers. Behind that is over 10 years of Ryan’s own welding and fabrication experience, in the field and on the table, which is where the way this shop runs came from.
The work is plant work. Structural and stainless fabrication, equipment setting and machine moves, repair welding on the floor, pads and pours, and selective removal of the equipment that is on its way out. We run a complete mobile unit, so most of it happens at your facility instead of on our shop table.

What that buys you is short distance between the walk through and the final sign off. The measurement that comes off your floor is the measurement the steel gets cut to, because the same outfit does the design, the layout, the fabrication, and the install. There is no drawing getting reinterpreted three desks away from the job.

The shop
A 5,000 square foot shop in Middletown
The shop sits close enough to I 81 that a Winchester plant and most of the rest of our service area are a straight run with a loaded trailer. Inside is a band saw for cutting tube and beam to length, MIG, TIG, and stick welding equipment, a cantilever rack holding A36 plate, flat bar, angle, A500 tube, stainless, and aluminum stock, and a forklift to move it around.
Keeping common stock on the rack matters more than it sounds. When a maintenance supervisor calls about a broken bracket or a bent guard, the first question is what the part is made of and whether that shape is already in the building. Plate, angle, and tube in ordinary sizes usually are. Anything exotic gets ordered, and we tell you that on the phone instead of after the fact.
Shop work also decides how much of the job is still unknown when we reach your site. Cutting and fit up happen here against a flat table and a square, so holes get checked against the anchor pattern and a weldment gets proven before it leaves the building. What arrives at your plant is a finished assembly that gets set and bolted. A bad fit caught on our table costs an hour. The same bad fit caught during your shutdown costs the window.

One contractor, one purchase order
Welding & Fabrication
Structural steel, platforms and access steel, guarding, dock guardrail, stainless for washdown areas, repair work on equipment that is already in service, and heavy equipment repair on buckets, dozer blades, and attachments.
Rigging Services
The heavy end of a machine swap. Conveyors, compressors, air receivers, gearboxes, electrical cabinets, and machines that will not fit back through the door they came in.
Industrial Maintenance
Conveyor and drive work, cooling tower steel, pipe and duct support, pallet rack installation, and the repairs that get scheduled into a shutdown window.
Concrete
Equipment pads, housekeeping pads, and footings built to the anchor bolt layout for the machine that is actually going in.
Demolition
Selective interior demolition, equipment removal, and pad breakout, with the rest of the building protected and running.

What it looks like when we are in your plant
We walk it first
Nothing in an older plant is where the drawing says it is, so we field verify the actual conditions before anything gets cut or quoted.
We work to your permits and procedures
Your contractor orientation gets sat through and signed for before a tool comes off the truck, and nothing we touch gets touched until your lockout and tagout procedure is satisfied.
We schedule around production
We work around live equipment rather than through it, and we plan the install into the window you have instead of asking for a new one.
We clean up and hand it back
Debris hauled out, floor swept, and the area turned back over so the next trade can start without moving our leftovers first. Cleanup is inside the scope we quote, not somebody else's line item.

What we do not do
Being clear about this saves everybody a phone call. Our focus is industrial. Manufacturing plants, data centers, food and beverage facilities, distribution centers, and commercial buildings with real equipment in them. We are not the shop for a trailer hitch, a mower deck, or a fire pit.
Design is done in house. We design what we build, and when a job calls for certified engineering we outsource that to licensed engineers and fabricate to the stamped drawings.
Our shop hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Planned work, shutdown work, and scheduled repair are what we are built for, and a maintenance manager already knows that everything reactive costs more than everything planned. And when a breakdown will not wait, we offer emergency service, call the shop and we will get a truck moving.

- What kind of jobs are you built for?
Mid size industrial work that crosses trades. A job where the pad has to come out, new steel has to be fabricated, and a machine has to be rigged into place is the kind of scope where running it as one job beats splitting it up. Single trade jobs are fine too. Consumer repair work is not what this shop is set up for.
- Do you work inside plants while they are running?
Yes. Most of what we do happens with production going on around us. Anything we touch gets isolated under your lockout and tagout procedure first, a fire watch stays on the area after the last cut, and we stage material so your aisles and forklift routes stay open the whole time we are there.
- Why does one contractor across the trades matter?
Because a lot of plant jobs are actually four jobs in sequence. Cut the old unit loose, break out the pad, fabricate and set the new frame, then rig the new unit in. Split that across separate vendors and nobody owns the seam between them, so every handoff becomes an argument about whose scope the gap belonged to while your machine sits. We run it as one job on one purchase order.
- Do you come to us or do we bring the work to you?
Either. We are a complete mobile unit, so the truck comes to your facility able to strike an arc at the machine instead of at the dock. Smaller items and anything that welds better on a table can come to the shop in Middletown.
- Who is actually going to be on my site?
Ryan and the crew who work out of this shop. The person who walked the job is the person who shows up to do it, so the scope does not drift between the quote and the install and nobody has to be brought up to speed twice. Where we travel is on the service area page.
